Dave Mullen was recently awarded the Dave Beach Humanitarian Award, given to an individual who reflects Dave Beach’s (also in our Hall of Fame) lifelong commitment of service to our running community. Dave Mullen does just as Dave Beach did; steps in when seeing a need, the very definition of humanitarianism.
Dave’s first association with the Goat was in the early 1990’s. He ran and finished only three times because he has worked the race since 1995. He’s been a favorite Race Announcer since 1998, missing only once/twice. Dave knows the Goat from many positions; from mile split timer coordinator, to training run coordinator, to marketing the Goat in freezing weather at other events, to coordination with city officials, to course marking, to race expo work, to race day set up, finish line chute, tear down and storage. Dave was also the Race Coordinator and then served as Race Director for five years.
Dave was a charter member of the Mountain Goat Run Foundation Board serving as Vice President, a position he also held on the Syracuse Track Club Board. Dave’s Race director duties did not stop with the Mountain Goat. He was Race Director or Co-Director for the Anheuser Busch Bud Runs and the Welch Allyn 5K. He continues to support many other Syracuse Track Club races. Dave is currently a member of the Grumpy Old Men, the Syracuse Track Club Men’s Supervet Mountain Racing Team.
Dave has spent five years running the instrumental and orchestral music programs at Hamilton Central School and 36 years running a wealth management practice, the most recent 17 as President and Chief Compliance Officer of Hazard Siegel Advisory Services.
Dave Mullen has been an indelible force with the Mountain Goat.
